Sabaa A. Khan
Dr. Sabaa Ahmad Khan is a Senior Researcher at the Center for Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Law and Attorney Member of the Barreau du Québec (Canada).
She holds a doctorate from the Faculty of Law at McGill University where she was an O’Brien Doctoral Fellow of the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism and Member of the Labour Law and Development Research Laboratory. She also holds law degrees from the Université de Montréal (LL.M.) and the University of Ottawa (LL.L.).
In addition to her legal advisory work and research in the fields of international environmental, trade and human rights law, Khan lectures within the Master’s Degree Programme in Environmental Policy and Law. In 2018, she co-directed the 15th UEF-UN Environment Course on Multilateral Environmental Agreements, held under the theme of Environment & Human Rights. During the renegotiation process of the North American Free Trade Agreement, Khan was appointed to the Government of Canada’s NAFTA Advisory Council on the Environment (2017-2018).
Prior to that, she was appointed to the Joint Public Advisory Committee of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation, where she advised the environmental authorities of Canada, Mexico and the United States in the implementation of the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (2017-2019). Khan’s previous appointments include membership to the United Nations Expert Group on Legal Frameworks for Chemicals and Waste Management (UN Environment, 2017-2018) and an international fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (2013).
