Finland is a clean, and technology-driven country which, as a member of the European Union, actively promotes democracy, the rule of law and human rights. Finland is located on the north-eastern border of the European Union, and it has been culturally impacted by influences from both Scandinavia and Russia. Finland has one of the highest standards of living in the world and the country is known as one of the global leaders in welfare know-how and modern technology. The high quality of the Finnish education system is internationally recognised. For an international student, Finland is both an exotic and a safe country to study in.

University of Eastern Finland

Like all universities in Finland, the University of Eastern Finland is authorised and supported by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture. We have approximately 15,700 degree students studying at UEF, and our campuses are home to a nice mix of Finnish and international students. We take pride in being a student-centred university, and one of our goals is to offer our students the best academic learning environments in Finland. From an academic perspective, we are one of the best universities in Finland: in 2018, we were ranked #43rd in the THE 100 Under 50 ranking by Times Higher Education, and we frequently appear among the world's leading 300 universities in the main ranking lists.

To learn more about UEF, we encourage you to explore the university, to read about our research activities, our performance in various rankings, and of course to find out about what's it like to study with us.

Studying with us

When your child arrives in Finland and starts his or her studies at the university, we will do our best to make sure that everything starts running smoothly. At the very beginning of the academic year, we organise an Orientation Week for our new international students to introduce the Finnish way of life and studying at the university. Furthermore, our international students are allocated student tutors to whom they can turn to in case of any questions. In addition, our International Mobility Services and departmental international coordinators are here to help with any questions or problems our international students may have. Moreover, all staff members of the university, including lecturers and professors, are easily approachable and willing to help students in their needs.

Life outside the university is also very important in order to make the most out of the time here in Finland. We encourage our international students to be active and to get involved in the various activities offered by the Student Union. >> Read more about the Student Union's recreational activities and other ways of getting involved.
