The project develops new methods in integrating conflicting natural resource uses. Using participatory action research methods, the project constructs new knowledge regarding the possibilities of mediation and collaborative governance in environmental planning and decision-making. Maps regional tensions related to natural resource uses and designs interventions to integrate multiple interests.  Action research is supported by an environmental law perspective into the limits and linkages between voluntary processes and legal instruments, and an comparative research on existing procedures and models for regional level integration of natural resource uses.
