Music Education, 25/60 ECTS
After completing the basic study module, students will be able to plan, implement, assess and develop music education and collaborative projects in grades 1-6 of basic education especially by integrating music with other arts and subjects. The aim is to broaden students’ musical skills, deepen their understanding of music and help them to develop as educators and musicians. Students learn to act as members of a music community and to recognize individual and communal meanings of music.
The intermediate studies in Music Education (35 ECTS) provide students with the skills and qualification to work as a music education teacher in grades 1-9 of basic education. After completing the intermediate study module, students will be able to plan, implement, assess and develop music education and collaborative projects in grades 1-9 of basic education especially in the field of arts and crafts education. In the intermediate studies, students will deepen their previously achieved skills and knowledge and acquire competences for developing the music education in primary and secondary schools.
The two study modules, together worth 60 ECTS credits, provide students with the qualification to work as a music education teacher in basic education. After completing these study modules, students can apply for the Master’s degree studies in Music Education in the University of Jyväskylä.
