Studies for the Teaching School Beginners

The Studies for the Teaching School Beginners (25+35 ECTS) is an ideal minor subject for students who are interested in teaching and educating pupils in pre-primary schools and on the 1st and 2nd classes of primary school.

The study programme ties in closely with other areas of education that examine the ways in which children may best be provided with a goal-driven and systematic education. Important research and development subjects are the education, growth and development of pre-school and primary school children and guiding the learning processes.

At the University of Eastern Finland, Studies for the Teaching School Beginners has been available as a minor subject for over 15 years. It has become apparent that the teaching of small children is a unique subject of study which interests a large proportion of our students. The programme provides students with good competence in applying their knowledge and skills in teaching pupils in pre-primary school and on the 1st and 2nd classes of primary school. In primary schools, teachers well versed in early education are highly sought after, and this can also be seen in the employment prospects of our graduates.
