Plant Ecophysiology Group

The research group of plant ecophysiology (led by Prof. Elina Oksanen) at Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Joensuu Campus, University of Eastern Finland (UEF), Finland, studies adaptation and acclimation mechanisms of northern deciduous trees (birch and aspen) to

  • climate warming
  • changes in water conditions (soil drought and wetness, changes in air humidity)
  • increasing greenhouse gases (ozone and carbon dioxide)

The research is based on field and chamber experiments, providing platforms for ecophysiological measurements and plant imagery. The expertise in the group includes hyperspectral imaging and metabolomics.

In addition to studies on forest trees, the group has been involved in crop research of ozone tolerance in India.
