Studying at the University of Eastern Finland

We are one of the largest universities in Finland, and home to approximately 15,000 students and 2,800 staff members. Our campuses are located in Kuopio, Joensuu and Savonlinna. Students at the Department of Applied Physics are part of the lively student organisation Hyeena. Students sports facilities are exceptionally good with ball game halls and gyms. Moreover, students are offered over 60 guided group workouts in a week including various sports (Sykettä).

Kuopio, founded in 1775, is a city of 111,000 inhabitants located in the Finnish lake district. All in all, 600,000 people live in the Kuopio catchment area. Kuopio in brief with a short video.

As a student in Medical Physics MSc programme

According to our students, the strengths of this training programme are the versatile curriculum, the personal study plan, high-quality teaching and a student-friendly atmosphere. The practical training at Kuopio University Hospital grants a deep understanding of the tasks and challenges of a medical physicist, as well as skills and understanding that are highly valuable in one’s future career. The practical training can also be conducted at one of the high-class research groups at the Department of Applied Physics in the University of Eastern Finland.

To ease the orientation of incoming students, the International Student Services of the University of Eastern Finland organises a three-day Orientation Programme at the beginning of every semester. International Student Services also provides a student tutor for each incoming student. The coordinator also arranges personal meetings with each student every two months.
