The scientific research at our Institute is of high quality, internationally comparable and significant at the very heart of health, health risks and health promotion.
We produce about 200 international peer-reviewed scientific papers each year. We also publish in some domestic venues, because a part of our research and development work directly serves the Finnish society and the wellbeing and development of this country.

  • Information on the institute's specialists and their publications can be found in the UEF SoleCris research database - SoleCRIS

We have research collaborators virtually on every continent. The largest number of partners comes from various European countries and from the United States, and there are some world top-ranked universities among them. We have also developed many contacts to Australia and new prospective collaboration is emerging with many centers in Asia and Africa.

Competitive outside funding covers about one-third of our annual budget. The main funding sources have been the Academy of Finland, the European Union, Ministries in Finland, domestic and Nordic research foundations, and the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation Tekes (now Business Finland). One of the largest and most important grants we have recently received is the multi-million-euro diabetes prevention project Stop Diabetes – Knowledge-Based Solutions (StopDia) for the years 2016-2019 (Strategic Research Council).
