XLVI Annual Conference of Linguistics on 16–18 May 2019
61 section papers, 5 poster presentations, two workshops and one panel discussion have been accepted to the XLVI Annual Conference of Linguistics. The presenters have been notified of their acceptance in March.
The conference programme includes three plenary lectures:
Thu 16 May: Professor Unn Røyneland (University of Oslo): Dialect and Migration Fri 17 May: PhD Anne Ketola (University of Tampere): Translation and Multilingual Activism in Literature
Sat 18 May: Assistant Professor Tuomo Hiippala (University of Helsinki): Helsinki’s Linguistic Landscape in Social Media
The XLVI Annual Conference of Linguistics will be held on the University of Eastern Finland’s Joensuu Campus, in Carelia and Agora buildings (located at Yliopistokatu 2–4). The event begins with an opening ceremony on Thursday, 16 May, at 12.30 p.m., and will finish on Saturday, 18 May, at 2 p.m. The preliminary schedule of the conference will be published on the conference website in April.
In addition to various presentations, the conference will include:
- A hundred Finnish linguistic biographies exhibition, which will be presented on Thursday, 16 May.
- A panel discussion on researching smaller Balto-Finnic languages, organized by the Linguistic Association of Finland. The panel discussion takes place on Thursday, 16 May.
- Three meetings organized by Langnet. More information on the meetings can be found here.
- A presentation on the Language Bank of Finland and its activities.
- A retrospect of the 50 years of academic language education in Joensuu
The attendees will have to pay the attendance fee before the conference using the registration form. The deadline for registration is Thursday, 2 May 2019. Please note that the registration fee cannot be paid at the conference. The registration fee is €85. There is a discount price of €50 for students, doctoral students, pensioners and the unemployed. The fee covers the program, abstracts, a seminar folder, two lunches, coffees, and the city reception on Thursday, 16 May.
The conference dinner is organized on Friday, 17 May, starting at 7 p.m. at restaurant Sulo
(located at Kauppakatu 28). The dinner, including drinks, costs €45. Attendees can choose between two menus with fish and vegetarian options. You can find the menus here. If you wish to sign up for the dinner, kindly choose the options you prefer on the registration form.
