The aim of the study group is to prospectively clarify the factors related to recovery from depression in depressed patients. We are especially interested in the bio-psychosocial factors related to well-being and working ability. Aims include examining both the individual's positive resources and the negative effects of depression on individual's wellbeing. In addition, we are interested to clarify the magnitude of vitamin D supplementation as an adjunctive treatment for depression.
Follow-up study with randomized clinical vitamin D supplementation trial on patients with depression (DepFuD) study aims to:
1) investigate and characterize the factors that are related to recovery from depression and working ability in depression patients in a short- and long-term.
2) clarify how a six-month intervention with vitamin D supplementation affects treatment response, recovery from depression and the biological pathways (i.e. inflammatory markers) related to depression This multidisciplinary follow-up and intervention study consolidates the aspects of psychiatry, epidemiology, public health, physiology and biomedicine.
