Pedagogical Studies in Adult Education 60 ECTS
The Pedagogical Studies in Adult Education programme provides students with the competence to work independently as teachers, career counsellors and educators. In accordance with the government decree on university degrees (A 794/2004), pedagogical studies comprise a minimum of 60 ECTS credits and they emphasise didactics and contain guided practical training, which may be specifically oriented to basic, upper secondary, vocational or adult education (A 794/2004, 19 §). The studies are also in compliance with the requirements of the decree on teaching qualifications (A 986/1998).
Pedagogical Studies in Adult Education is particularly oriented to issues related to adult education. The studies will, however, help students to develop a broad pedagogical competence that allows them to fulfil their duties as teachers, i.e. they are capable of teaching, guiding and supporting the growth of children, young people and adults regardless of which educational level their studies have concentrated on.
The target group and student admission criteria for Pedagogical Studies in Adult Education are reviewed and confirmed annually. The student admission criteria can be found in the Minor Subject Application Guide (Finnish). For students in the Degree Programme in Education and Adult Education, Pedagogical Studies in Adult Education is not a minor subject. Instead, the programme forms part of their major subject studies (and degree). The completion of these studies will be marked into your degree diploma. Students in the Degree Programme in Education and Adult Education must also go through a separate application and student selection process if they wish to pursue Pedagogical Studies in Adult Education.
There is a separate application and student selection process for the study programme. Some of the theoretical courses included in Pedagogical Studies for Teachers are also included in the minor subject studies in Education and Adult Education. Students may pursue these courses already before obtaining the right to study pedagogical studies.
