The well-known world language of English is one of our most popular subjects. The mastery of English is required in all fields of life, both at work and during one’s free time. By studying the English language at the University of Eastern Finland, you will become an expert in the language and master it with all its nuances. Our teaching staff consists of both native Finnish speakers and native English speakers who all have an extensive expertise in the field. In our university, you can choose to study either English Language and Culture or English Language and Translation.

We conduct diverse research on language, translation and culture. Our research is internationally well-known and active. We are involved in the University of Eastern Finland’s top-level international research area Borders, Mobilities and Cultural Encounters.

How to Apply

You can apply to study the English language through the joint application system by choosing the study programme of English Language, Culture and Translation.

The right to study English as a minor subject is granted based on an entrance exam. Further information can be found in the Minor Subject Application Guide (Finnish).
