Environmental bioinformatics at general level is a two way approach where it primarily refers to use of biotechnology to measure the environment. Additionally, it is used to refer to biological measurements i.e. measurements carried out by any means about the biological environment. Besides the measurements, it can also be seen to include different kinds of modeling tasks based on the measured data. Also, the concept of environmental Bio-ICT has been used lately to refer to these activities.
In our research group we are focusing on a limited set of applications in the field of environmental bioinformatics. For instance, we have carried out in-Silico research on QSAR modeling. Lately, ecological modeling and simulation of biological processes have become important research topics. Finally, our strong competence in computational methods enables us to work on versatile applications in this field where data-handling and modeling are crucial tools.
