New projects for edTech research group
edTech research group members have recently been very active on applying external funding for research and development projects. As a result, we are now very happy to announce three recently approved projects, with total funding of 646 245 € for all partners.
ICT4EEDU (funded from HEI ICI Eritrea program) aims to strengthen the human and infrastructure capacity of the Eritrean Institute of Technology to create and distribute electronic learning resources and services that are pedagogically sound and locally relevant, so that the EIT can take an active and informed role in the use of ICTs to address the Eritrean development and education priorities. Our reserach group coordinates the project.
TACCLE3 project (funded from Erasmus+ program) produces an online support package of ideas, activities, materials and downloadable resources for teachers who are teaching programming. UEF is one of the project partners.
TopMob project (funded from learning environment development program of UEF) develops a smart phone application and associated backend service to capture and support especially informal learning during university students' internship periods. Students can reflect their learning moments "in situ" while carrying out their duties at the work place. The project is designed and implemented together with School of Theology of UEF.

FinCEAL Event Grant - ICT for a Brighter Future, Mexico
The edTech group is pleased to announce that the FinCEAL Plus project has awarded Dr. Calkin Suero Montero 4500€ event grant for the organization of the workshop
"ICT for a Brighter Future - Present Solutions to Pressing Problems".
The workshop will be held on October 8-9, at the INAOE Puebla Mexico alongside the collaboration of Dr. José Martinez Carranza.

Currently, Matti Tedre is Associate Professor at Department of Computer and Systems Sciences at Stockholm University, Sweden. He is a doctoral student alumni of the edTech research group.
Dr. Tuomo Kakkonen awarded a docent title at University of Eastern Finland.
The Faculty of Science and Forestry has awarded Dr. Tuomo Kakkonen, the title of docent at the University of Eastern Finland. Dr. Kakkonen is a doctoral student alumni of the edTech research group, and after graduation he was working as a post-doc researcher.
Dr. Kakkonen is a text mining expert that has several years of experience in the fields of computational linguistic, natural language processing, sentiment analysis, opinion mining, syntactic parsing technologies, parser evaluation, treebanks, information retrieval, latent semantic analysis, and probabilistic latent semantic analysis. His interests include the use of these technologies in real world applications in education technology and business intelligence.
