The programme provides an interdisciplinary introduction to theology, an entirety comprised of major fields in theological studies. Upon the completion of the programme, the student is capable of recognizing and making distinctions between different theological disciplines and their approaches to contemporary religious and cultural issues as well as their perspectives to classic theological problems. Students choose to focus either on the Western or the Orthodox Christian tradition.

The teaching of theology at UEF is characterised by the encounter between Eastern and Western traditions and an understanding of different theological views. The entire strategy of the Department is built on this encounter.

In addition to introducing students to theological disciplines in general, the programme takes a look at issues such as the common and diverse characteristics of Quranic and Biblical research. Some disciplines place a stronger emphasis on local perspectives, as the study module also aims to acquaint students with the characteristics of theological traditions within the Finnish setting.

Studies are open for all students

This is a non-degree programme directed mainly to exchange or visiting students. There is no specific admission and selection process to this particular programme. Courses included in the programme can be also completed by master's degree students as a part of their studies.
